Osprey porter 46 review

The Osprey porter 46 is a backpack full of great design features. Its main feature being the size, the porter sits right on the edge of maximum carry on size dimensions giving you great flexibility when travelling. You can pack light and go hand luggage only or pack this bag to it’s full potential and have enough space for long term travel.

You can purchase the Osprey porter 46 on Amazon (US) for around $100 coming in 3 colours black, red or green. Keep in mind that the Osprey Porter 46 does not come with the shoulder strap, but it can be purchased separately for around $15.

As I mentioned this backpack is full of great design features, One of its best being it’s more like a duffel bag than a backpack. The spacious main compartment is accessed by a full wrap around zipper which makes it easily accessible. The porter 46 also allows you to stay very organised with two side organizers in the main compartment and a well designed front pocket with a padded quick access (15.4″) laptop/tablet sleeve. There is also two quick access pockets, one on the very front of the bag which could easily fit an A4 pad and one at the top of the bag which is ideal for a waterproof jacket.

Another feature that you will notice is the foam walled StraightJacket system which wraps around the sides of the backpack giving your belongings maximum protection and compression. The side walls also come in very handy when the main compartment is flipped open as the bag holds it’s shape.

The Porter 46 is also well designed on the back the straps are very comfortable when the bag fully loaded, however it’s NO hiking backpack. The best feature is that the straps and hip belt can be tucked away out of sight. This feature is great when using transport especially flights and once you land you can rapidly deploy the harness and hip belt in seconds.

When you buy a backpack said backpack could last you a life time. I think the Osprey porter 46 is one of those lifetime bags, It is very versatile and really enjoyable to travel with. The porter 46 also comes with the amazing Osprey lifetime guarantee so unless you loose this thing you will have it forever.
